Business Security & Boss Napping – When Employees Turn Into Criminals

We’ve all heard about ex-workers going postal, that is to say after being let go for cause or laid off to save the company money, the worker comes back and shoots his boss and a few of his former employee associates. It’s a sad day for all, the company is devastated and the town morns. But this is not the only problem brewing on the horizon, now laid off employees are getting together and staging sit-ins, refusing to leave, almost the opposite of a company lock out where the company cannot negotiate with the unions and locks them out of work.
Worse, and it has not happened in the United States yet, but it will, angry workers are hijacking the company and kidnapping the boss, using him as a negotiation pawn to serve their will – usually asking for more money, better benefits, and the proverbial safer working environment. Kidnapping in the US is a serious crime we all know, and so is holding someone for ransom or in this case better benefits and higher pay.
Business Security consultants are going to have to consider safe escape exits, bullet proof glass, encased steel, and/or Kevlar coatings to protect executives. In France, this is already happening, but we are also witnessing angry mobs of employees in Mexico trying the same tactics, and we are only one border away from Mexico, with many workers who are from there that believe this is a just action if they feel underpaid, mistreated or in any way slighted by the company or its leadership. So, please consider this serious future issue.
